AYLESBURY GRAMMAR SCHOOL William Mead Library

The Brief:

Having relocated a number of Heads of Year Offices we employed the services of Design and Structural Engineers to plan the space to accommodate a new School Library.

As a separate project, we were engaged to transform the existing School Library into a modern, functional Study Centre for the 6th Form cohort. This necessitated the creation of this new School Library.

What we did:

We removed a number of dividing walls, previously the Heads of Year Offices, to create a large open space. We had to create new brickwork supporting pillars on the external walls to support the roof structure and ‘tie’ the existing external walls.

The space was then plastered and decorated throughout and new aluminium and glass Entrance Doors were installed. All external windows were replaced with new.

We manufactured and fitted perimeter Library Shelving units finished in White Kraft Oak with 40mm adjustable shelves. Study workstations with Walnut tops and White frames complete with a White Italian designed and manufactured chair were installed.

A number of tub chairs, finished in Chieftain vinyl to complement the school colours were arranged to create an informal learning area.

Following the school’s Architects design we manufactured the Librarians’ desk unit to match the aforementioned Walnut, complete with a white acrylic flyover shelf which includes the school crest.
