FEATURED PROJECTS

 SIR WILLIAM BORLASE SCHOOL
6th FORM CENTRE

The Background:

The brief was to create a multi-use facility for the a 6th form in a tired and under utilised 1960's hall.  Together with the replacement of the external wall and installation of bespoke stain glass windows, the internal areas were to include the removal of the old stage, new internal wall facings, flooring with improved heating, lighting and sound management.

The design needed to create a flexible space for study, relaxation and socialising with a snacking kitchen and offices for supervision.  It was to feel like their 'own space' within the overal school design and 400 years of heritage.

The specific challenges were:  a lack of insulation, an existing stage which could not be removed, poor acoustics and lighting, provision of a coffee and snack dispense and lounge area, provision of disabled access, bespoke stained glass designs linking old and new, a range of frniture to allow for relaxing and studying.

What we did:
  • Created 3D fully rendered designs and gained approval from the school and external authorities.

  • Complete redesign of the stage area imorporating 2 offices for supervision, a snacking area and and innovative staircase which converts to a wheelchair ramp.

  • Created a brick internal walls using specialised brick slips to match the new external facde wall.

  • Designed an produced handing ceiling lights incorporating acoustic panels for discrete and effective  atmosphere management.

  • Sourced a range of furniture to include comfortable sofas, fixed booth seating and long tables with power and USB sockets to facilitate study.

  • Installed bespoke designed stained glass feature windows reflecting the history and current school values.

  • Created distictive design features including hand-crafted beech and fret cut metal room dividers.
