LABORATORY PROJECTS

Southend High School For Girls -
Science Dept Refurbishment

The school’s expansion plan relocated the geography department to a brand-new building.  This allowed additional rooms for the science department.  We were tasked with providing two physics laboratories, prep room, large chemistry laboratory together with a media classroom and staff office.  We achieved this by utilising these additional rooms and reconfiguring the existing science rooms.

Chemistry and Physics Laboratories

We were asked to modernise the existing science laboratories which had reached the end of their effective life.  All rooms were designed to be forward-facing and were designed individually to suit the specific needs of each subject.  Whilst common materials were used across the three rooms, each were given a distinctive splash of colour.  All of the services were renewed including replacing a gas cannister supply with a mains gas supply and installed a new boiler.

– Science Laboratory & KS5 Laboratory

Having relocated the art department during Summer 2017, we were commissioned to turn the old art rooms into a large science laboratory and smaller KS5 learning space.  The project involved structural works, new walls and ceilings throughout and an HVAC system.  We installed Forbo Black Seagrass flooring and white furniture to both rooms.  We fitted Velstone Silver Dust worktops to the main laboratory and white CDF worktops to the KS5 room.  We introduced a splash of colour with green Hille pepperpot stools.

Physics Laboratories

The last two physics laboratories were refurbished during the Summer of 2016.  This included the creation of a new room - we took a smaller space and extended it by removing a wall leading to a storage area resulting in a purpose built physics laboratory in excess of 100 m2.  The final room was then transformed to give all five physics laboratories the same look and feel.

Aylesbury Grammar School -
Biology Block

We started with a purpose built ‘empty shell’. We designed and built 4 biology laboratories and 2 prep rooms to include all internal walls, ceilings and floors, services and furniture. Services including full air handling, heating and air conditioning were installed.

St Columba's College - Science Block

We undertook a refurbishment of the entire science block from 2012 – 2104 which included 7 laboratories, prep room staff offices and toilets.  By careful planning, we created an additional teaching laboratory within the existing footprint whilst extending the prep room and chemical store.

St Albans High School For Girls
- Science Laboratory

We refurbished an existing science laboratory to create an environment for both practical and conventional learning.  To ensure that all students were forward facing we installed long island style workbenches.  We were also asked to incorporate storage cupboards under the students workbenches.  The carcasses were finished in Pear with Capri blue doors.  We re-designed an existing prep room between 2 biology laboratories to incorporate specific storage solutions requested by the technical staff.  To complement the adjacent laboratories the carcasses were manufactured in Pear but with Mamba green doors.

Royal Grammar School -
Physics Laboratory KS5

We refurbished an existing science laboratory and changed the use of the room to KS5 physics.  Our brief was to keep, refurbish and reinvigorate the existing Iroko tops whilst changing all other components in the room to give a contemporary but still traditional aesthetic.  We supplied new sub-frames and storage units throughout and re-positioned the gas and power supplies to suit the new layout.  We decorated throughout, installed a new suspended ceiling with LED lighting and layed new vinyl flooring.

Bottisham Village College -
Science Laboratories and Prep Room

We were asked to create 2 general science laboratories with defined areas for both practical and conventional teaching.  Each room has air conditioning, air handling and CO2 monitoring, all contained within a newly created ceiling void above an LED lit 600mm ceiling grid.  We also installed a new technicians preparation room with storage wall and fume cupboard.

Cedars School - Science Laboratories

We refurbished 3 science laboratories from 2014 – 15 which included provision of all services including gas, power and data.  The layouts were changed from traditional service bollard tables to a forward facing for more effective teaching.

Southend High School -
Science Laboratories

We converted the Hitchcock Library into 2 science laboratories which included fume cupboards, storage and a traditional island based layout for an effective use of space.

Waddesdon C of E School -
Science / DT Room

Following a successful refurbishment of 4 science laboratories we redesigned the existing Design Technology room to a multi-purpose science and DT teaching space.  We use 16mm Trespa Athlon for all worktops that ideally suited for the broad range of subjects taught within the room.

Aylesbury Grammar School - Physics
Prep Room

This project re-modelled existing offices and the old prep room to create a much larger and more effective prep room.  We designed specialist Gratnell storage to accommodate a broad range of equipment and teaching materials.
